We talk a lot on this blog about the agreement of “natural law” or science and “supernatural law” or Scripture. The area of the emotional roots of disease (including cancer and other potentially lethal conditions) is a perfect example of such agreement.
“Naturally” or scientifically, we know that emotional responses to trauma, fear, unresolved anger, bitterness, etc. form memories that stick with us persistently–literally sending toxic chemicals into our bloodstream. As these chemicals are continually distributed because we “recall and mentally re-live” hurtful events, certain damaging physical responses occur.
Blood vessels begin to leak plasma and certain proteins which become trapped in the fluid between cells at an abnormal rate so that the lymphatic system is unable to clean that fluid efficiently. The result is a cellular environment that becomes increasingly upset electrically and chemically. Oxygen and nutrients are not delivered normally to cells and pain and fatigue ensues. Eventually vicious cycles of toxic reactions occur at the cellular level –an environment rife for tumorous cellular activity.
Scripture teaches us “Supernatural Law” which is “illustrated” by the “natural law” responses just described above. Time after time Jesus healed the sick–in fact, He healed every single person who came to Him for healing. [I know He didn’t heal everyone at the pool of Bethesda, but none of them came to Him. The one he healed was, in fact, unable to come to Him as the story relates. All there were focused on the pool rather than on Jesus.]
As Jesus healed every sick person who came to Him, he nearly always told them their sins were forgiven. Many other times in Scripture, we are instructed to forgive others as our Lord has forgiven us. Such instruction appears in the model “Lord’s Prayer” in Matthew 6 as well as the 5th Chapter of James and many more lessons. Jesus makes it clear in Mark 11:25. (See end of post for other references.)
I know in absolute certainty that my own cancer evolved as a result of a deep seated bitterness and resentment of trauma occurring in my 20’s. It does not matter whether or not the bitterness is a result of one’s own sin or sin against us. Either forms deep wounds in our souls–vivid negative memories or memorials to hurt/trauma/etc. The redemptive blood of Christ covers ALL sin and, once we forgive ourselves and others, focusing on the glory of His resurrection is a power that can heal all soul wounds.
Forgiving others AND ourselves is an absolute pre-requisite for obtaining and keeping bodily healing. It is critical spiritually and it is critical physically because not forgiving is willfully releasing lethal toxins into the physical body. The instruction in Scripture is there because our God is LOVE and He wants us fully in health. As King David wrote in Psalm 139, “We are fearfully and wonderfully made.” Just as a loving human parent would not put disease on a child of his, our loving Father and Creator does not want us sick. We MUST comply with both “Heavenly or Supernatural Law” and “Natural or Scientific Law”….first of all is ” Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love others AND love self. Forgive others and forgive self. NO exceptions.
I was recently privileged to hear Pastor Tony Kemp who has an amazing healing anointing ( www.tonykempministries.net ). As I witnessed him ministering healing to many–miracles abounded. In every case, he made certain the “subject” forgave others and self before he ministered to them. I was convinced his ministry was so powerful because he held so closely to the purest law of love stated in the preceding paragraph of this blog. Love forgives, period!
I’ve written before about the amazing teaching of Katie Souza ( www.expectedendministries.com ). I highly recommend her teaching CDs on “Staying Un-Offendable” available on the website.
If you want to study the science of toxic emotions causing diseases like cancer, I recommend you check out Youtubes such as

Once you have forgiven ALL others and yourself, “babysit your mind and emotions” so that the sin of offense does not undermine your healing. It’s the LAW on every level and cannot be escaped.
