Having a doctor say the “C” word about your body is terrifying. No question. “Cancer” and many other “disease” diagnoses drop a veil of fear and confusion over life…..suddenly the conversation in the room sounds like slow motion groaning and the patient becomes less a participant and more the object of discussion. It’s difficult for a patient to stop the mental video of his own dreams vaporizing long enough to catch an occasional word of the discussion. And all the while the patient’s heart beat is drumming in his or her throat. It is a time of sheer electric panic………….NOT a time to make treatment decisions…….BUT a perfect time to stop and have a heart to heart conversation with your loving Father–God. THE Great Physician.
Patients who find themselves facing treatment decisions often rush to schedule surgery……”let’s get this thing cut out and pray they get it all”…..or “let’s burn it out with radiation and pray it doesn’t damage too much other tissue”……..or, “get that chemotherapy started because I don’t want this tumor to get any bigger or spread”…..and pray the chemo doesn’t kill me. The mindset is “time is of the essence”.
Usually the order of action is…first, make all the physical decisions and then go beg God to make those decisions work. Petitioning the Lord AFTER making important decisions rather than first going to Him and laying your situation at His feet seeking His guidance about your decisions is getting it backwards.
This blog includes a great deal of information about choices and decisions pertinent for preventing and overcoming “disease”–especially cancer. There are many resources and, most important, great reference to God’s Word and its healing power.
This particular post adds one of the most important resources I’ve ever discovered…..it came to me from a new friend about whom, every time I speak to her on the phone (we’ve never met face to face), I think “this has to be one of the gentlest souls on the earth”. This friend, Carrie, operates Doves Landing Farm in Kentucky and provides me and many others with wonderful fresh clean produce and hand crafted soaps. Visit her website www.doveslandingfarm.com and at least order some of her wonderful soaps (that are sans toxins of course). Carrie visited my blog and shared a resource I hadn’t known about; however, it is, perhaps, the most important one to date.
Keep in mind Hosea 4:6 “My people perish for lack of knowledge”. Rushing to pray for a “miracle healing” or get your name on “prayer lists” AFTER making medical decisions demonstrates that “lack of knowledge”.
I find this new resource agrees with some of my most recent “research and study”. Medically and spiritually sound as well as deeply rooted in God’s Word, Henry W Wright’s book A More Excellent Way to Better Health is absolutely the most comprehensive and insightful book I’ve read and I’ve read dozens in my effort to bring blog readers information to evaporate that fog of fear the severe diagnoses evoke—-forcing decisions based on panic.
Henry W. Wright, a pastor of a church in Thomaston, Georgia, has sound credentials and an understanding that “God’s perfect will is not to heal you. God’s perfect will is that you do not get sick.” Health is the goal—perhaps returning to health after a dire diagnosis or perhaps holding on to health in a world assaulting it vehemently. Trial and error management of symptoms and the “side effects” of those trials do not have health as the goal…ever.
This book is comprehensive and deals with spiritual roots of disease……something another truly anointed and insightful minister of healing, Katie Souza, whose ministry website is www.expectedendministries.com has discerned in a similar way to Wright. Katie has a miracle personal witness and is highly anointed with insights only gained passing through “the refiner’s fire”. She also does conferences but the downloads available on her website are instant help. I highly recommend “Sons of Light” and “The Glory Light of Jesus Heals your Soul” for your first downloads.
Both of these ministers are faithful to God’s Word in their teaching. Both are passionate in their mission to build God’s Kingdom populated with God’s children claiming their inheritance won by Christ and living in physical, emotional/mental, and spiritual health as opposed to struggling against evil powers and disease…….Both of these ministers have been blessed with insights rooted in scripture about the blocks to healing that must be dealt with before physical healing can occur. This point is critical. I know it from personal experience….these two ministers teach something I know that I know that I know is critical for healing.
Henry W. Wright’s book is not his ownly resource. He leads a ministry that holds conferences both in Thomaston, Georgia and other locations worldwide. His website is: www.beinhealth.com.
If you or a loved one are experiencing ANY disease; symptoms that haven’t been diagnosed as a disease; allergies; or an occasional ache or pain……you will benefit from visiting www.beinhealth.com and www.expectedendministries.com. You will understand health…..additionally you will understand a lot more than those who “chase miracles” hoping against hope.
Seek the healer rather than healing! You will be blessed with health.

If we choose to accept the role of “victim”, we are not choosing life. If we imagine the worst, the enemy is winning. Dr. Nasir Siddiki, in his Scriptural teaching series from www.wisdomministries.com, reminds us that “life will give us what we settle for”.
There are two ways to look at how God Heals. I heard a wonderful sermon once in which a Spirit filled pastor of a congregation in which nearly every member has experienced divine healing discussed
- Natural healing…..basically the working of our immune systems to fight off “insulters and intruders” as well as the seemingly simple but really quite complex healing of cuts and bruises and broken bones.
- Medical….God using physicians to heal. This pastor taught, “Go prayerfully because God used doctors and they are powerless without Him because all wisdom comes from God and satan knows how to lie convincingly regarding this.” The enemy lies to all of us including doctors.
- Miracles…Jesus perfomed many and he is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
- anointing of the Holy Spirit
- laying on of hands by believers
- believing and speaking God’s Word
- anointing with oil and prayer of believers
- agreement of two or more believers in prayer
- believe you receive when you pray and pray with ever increasing gratitude
- discerning Christ’s striped body in communion service
- praying in the powerful name of Jesus–name above all names.

I recently completed a wonderful Bible Study presented by one of the most popular Bible teachers in America today and was pained by her struggle to teach strong scriptural faith while obviously wrestling with the question of why some who are prayed for are not healed.
I also recently visited a church where, at the end of the service, the minister added some prayer list reports he had overlooked earlier. I couldn’t believe my ears when he said, “_________ is doing amazingly well right now with her cancer. She feels great……But we need to keep praying because we know she will be feeling worse at some point.”
I also had an almost surreal experience at a church we had attended for several months when, at the suggestion of the minister, I volunteered for the prayer team…..and was rejected because “the prayer team teaches a lot and the elders wanted to be sure members taught the doctrine they wanted taught….not giving false hope because God can’t heal everyone“. They actually said “God can’t heal everyone”. They quoted a few scriptures “at” me about Paul’s “thorn in his side” and “Paul leaving Trophimus ill in Melitum” as proof it’s not God’s will to heal everyone.
In another very nice church I visited, a wonderful man came forward to give the invocation and included in an otherwise moving prayer, “If it be your will, heal those who are ill, but if not, we ask for comfort.”
It’s true that everyone who is prayed for is not healed. Is that reality proof that it is not God’s will to heal everyone? What about our will? In fact, what about Trophimus’s will (faith) in Melitum (2 Tim 4:20) And, regarding that infamous “thorn” that God permitted to vex Paul even though he prayed three times for God to take it away. (2 Cor 12:8). The term “thorn in a side”, in the Bible as in modern terminology, refers to something that buffets us like people who irritate us as it was used in Numbers 33:55 regarding the Canaanites buffeting the Israelites….nuisances, vexations, etc.
Are we not putting our full faith in the healing power of God’s Word because we are so wounded by having lost loved ones we have prayed for? Are we trying to make our theology match our “reality” rather than believing God’s Word has the power to change our reality? Ministers and teachers who have powerful healing ministries seem to be answering, “Yes”. Charles S. Price, F. F. Bosworth, Smith Wigglesworth, T.L. Osburn, and Kenneth E. Hagin all had powerful healing ministries and write eloquently on the role of faith in physical healing. The humble but Spirit filled minister who conducted my own oil service that began my healing process agrees with these men as does Marilyn Hickey who, at nearly 80, is still traveling the world teaching and healing the sick even in “dangerous” countries like Pakistan and Morroco where large percentages of her “audiences” aren’t Christian.
Miraculous physical healing is achieved with great success in the “third world” where faith is childlike and “modern medicine” is not competing for that faith. “Proper” American churches tend to fall into various degrees of “cessationism”–altogether ignoring the Bible’s teachings regarding physical healing or rationalizing against the scriptures that God used to heal but not now…..still they profess that God is “the same yesterday, today and tomorrow” about everything else…..or almost everything else.
I was raised in a proper, formal church that never taught the healing scriptures so, when faced with an “inoperable pancreatic tumor” and married to a classically trained physician, I faced a stone wall. Miraculously, just days before I learned my shocking diagnosis, a fencing contractor who came to bid on a job for me told me about his wife being miraculously healed according the the Fifth Chapter of James. At the time, I thought, “That’s a nice story….and went on to discuss the fencing project.” This nice gentleman was the first person I called after the shock of my diagnosis subsided. I believed because of this man’s testimony. I had childlike faith when he had the minister call me and we prayed on the phone. That very evening my husband and I attended Cornerstone Assembly of God Church in Danvlle, KY and were warmly welcomed by many people who, themselves, had healing testimonies. I had no idea what to expect but I believed I would be healed. After the praise and worship, the minister asked for any with prayer requests to come forward and I went and was anointed with oil and immediately I knew a change had taken place in my body….and, more than that, I knew I had been born again in Christ. An old life ended and a new one began just that simply.
I recommend reading the ministers mentioned above. Most of their books can be bought from www.Amazon.com used. They will help you understand God’s will as revealed in the scriptures and it is critical that we learn to pray properly according to the scriptures rather than according to our own rationalizations based on past heartbreaks. In the interest of time….because ill people need healing now….I will summarize a teaching from Marilyn Hickey and highly recommend her book and/or DVD, “Be Healed”.
Mrs. Hickey uses Psalm 107:20 “He sent His word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.”(NIV) She says it is not how “spiritual” you are; it is how powerful God’s Word is. As scripture says, The Word cannot return void. The Word wil prosper for the purpose it was sent to. Stay “in the Word” while ou are looking for (indeed expecting) signs of your healing to appear. Do not let the enemy steal your confidence in God’s Word. Read it aloud daily. See our blog page on “God’s Healing Word”.
- Healing is always God’s will.
- God’s Word is true–All of it. It will change our reality.
- Doubt and unforgiveness are obstacles to healing.
- We cannot “deserve” healing, it is God’s scriptural promise–“he heals ALL our diseases” (Ps 103:3)
- God IS the God who performs miracles. (Ps77:14) note the present tense in these Psalms
