Sometimes I re-post from other blogs and newsletters when I find information I believe will benefit my readers. I like for you to see that the insights I write about are shared with “experts”. Dr. Andrew Weil, M.D.(well known author and physician of integrative health) included the following list in his recent eNewsletter. You can subscribe to that eNewsletter if you like. www.drweil.com will link you to his site. His “Anti-Inflammatory Food Pyramid”, in my opinion, is much better than the FDA’s which seems over influenced by certain agricultural lobbies.
Dr. Weil’s POST:
“Vegetables (and fruits) are the foundation of my Anti-Inflammatory Food Pyramid, and for good reason – fresh produce is the best source of natural nutrients that can help keep your entire body running smoothly. I recommend every healthy kitchen have the following versatile and flavorful favorites on hand:
- Onions: This classic, pungent vegetable adds depth and richness to any meal. Sulfur compounds found in most varieties of onions may be responsible for its health benefits, including the possible lowering of cholesterol and blood pressure.
- Garlic: This fragrant bulb contains many of the same phytonutrients as onions, as well as antibiotic and antiviral compounds. It may help boost the immune system, prevent colds, lower blood pressure and cholesterol, and fight fungal infections.
- Spinach: This dark leafy green (and others like it, such as kale and collards) contains lutein and zeaxanthin, antioxidant carotenoids that may help prevent cataracts and macular degeneration. Spinach is also a source of calcium and folate, a B vitamin that helps to prevent birth defects. Buy organic spinach, since pesticides are commonly used on conventionally grown varieties.
- Cabbage: This low-cost yet highly nutritious cruciferous vegetable contains nutrients called indoles, which may protect against both breast and prostate cancer. It also provides significant amounts of fiber and vitamin C.
- Sweet potatoes: Rich in beta carotene, these vegetables may help boost the immune system, deliver vitamin C and folate (which may reduce the risk of heart disease and prevent certain birth defects), and are low on the glycemic index and glycemic load charts. Don’t miss tomorrow’s Daily Tip, for the other five of the 10 Veggies You Should Be Eating.”
- Yesterday’s Daily Tip covered five of my favorite healthy vegetables – today I present the rest of the list. I recommend keeping your kitchen stocked with each of these as it comes into season:
My note: Mushrooms are, indeed, nutraceuticals in that they are potent chemically. They are, on the other hand, fungi and some nutritional writers like Dr. Robert O. Young, PhD, D.Sc who wrote the book, Sick and TIRED? Reclaim Your Inner Terrain, suggests not eating them because they are fungi. Dr. Weil, M.D. and Dr. Young, PhD and D.Sc both make good points. Perhaps mushrooms are more suitable in the diet of one preventing cancer than one fighting cancer. Make your own decision, but this is my “take” on the information these learned men provide.
- Beets. The deep red color of these root vegetables comes from anthocyanins, phytonutrients that protect against damage from carcinogens and may help prevent heart disease. Beets are delicious hot or cold, versatile and inexpensive.
- Squash. With a wide variety of types, flavors, shapes, and sizes, squash is readily adaptable to any occasion – it can even be used in pie! It provides beta-carotene, potassium, and fiber, nutrients that are necessary for good overall health.
- Tomatoes. This red fruit (often considered a vegetable) contains lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that helps fight heart disease and possibly some types of cancer, particularly prostate cancer. Use tomatoes in everything from salads to sauces, but know that lycopene is most easily absorbed when the tomatoes are cooked and eaten with a little fat, such as extra virgin olive oil.
- Broccoli. This vegetable-platter classic and other cruciferous vegetables offer cancer-protective benefits. Broccoli is also a good source of vitamin K and calcium – both of which help keep bones strong. It is tasty both raw and cooked, and can be a stand out in soups, casseroles, and salads.
- Mushrooms. Prized for their tonic effects, mushrooms can help address a host of illnesses. Maitake mushrooms (known as “hen of the woods” for their resemblance to the fluffed tail feathers of a nesting hen) are particularly valued in Asian cooking, as they have anti-cancer, anti-viral and immune-enhancing properties, and may also reduce blood pressure and blood sugar. Shiitake, enokidake and oyster mushrooms also have immune-boosting qualities, and are easily included in many main courses.

Without exception, every creditable resource I have consulted in my quest to live in health “after cancer” has discussed the importance of maintaining a slightly alkaline body chemistry. There is a great deal of research on this subject with a tremendous amount of agreement that a body in the “healthy state” must be kept slightly alkaline.
In fact our blood absolutely must run at about 7.2 to 7.3 in pH or we die–it’s that simple [neutral is 7.0 and anything below that is acid. Every point of increase or decrease is a 10 fold change so it is significant. There is a color chart with the litmus paper to easily rate the test. Obviously, the body will make a lot of adjustments to maintain that level blood pH including pulling calcium from bone and other tissue to balance against acidic conditions that can result from diet and other toxic lifestyle factors.
I use Hydrion Litmus Paper to check either first urine of the day or saliva before eating or drinking in the morning to check pH. This can be obtained from www.microessentials.com, the manufacturer. I order mine with my Barley Power tablets from www.greensupreme.net. These tablets help tremendously in balancing the body to slightly alkaline–but they cannot replace proper diet, exercise, plenty of pure water, and a healthy soul (mind/will/emotions).
I first learned about this paper and the Barley Power from Bill Henderson’s useful book, Cancer Free: Your Guide to Gentle Non-Toxic Healing, which is available from www.amazon.com.
Even though I was closely involved in the orthodox medical world for decades, I had NEVER been taught the importance of acid/alkaline balance for health–until I read Henderson’s book.
My research has helped me understand that inflammation in the body which results from “insult”–either physical, emotional, or mental trauma–sets forth a series of body chemistry actions and reactions. These reactions lead to inflammation which is meant to be temporary such as at an injury site (often medically charted as “insult” site). If the trauma is even partly emotional (and what trauma is not), that part must be dealt with just as the physical injury must. The “insult” registers emotionally/mentally as “offense” which inevitably forces the decision to forgive and heal or hold bitterness and allow the inflammation to become chronic.
Chronic inflammation and acidity are within a vicious disease cycle in which toxins are not properly thrown off by the body’s “clean up” mechanisms. These toxins have to go some place and often accumulate in certain body tissues at the cellular level and, subsequently, the tissue/organ level. ALL chronic disease (not necessarily all acute disease) is rooted in chronic inflammation and cancer is in this chronic category.
It’s a mistake to treat cancer as an acute/temporary disease because it is really an extreme symptom of the body being out of balance and caught up in chronic inflammation at some site within it. The root cause MUST be dealt with to return to health.
Finally, I want to recommend a really handy book, The Acid-Alkaline Food Guide, by Dr. Susan E Brown and Larry Trivieri, Jr. also available at www.amazon.com. I probably have a dozen books on this subject but this one is the handiest. It is compact and portable; includes a succinct explanation of the science; and, best of all, there is a good chart rating foods per their degree of acidity or alkalinity (low, medium, high). It explains the need to balance these foods. We can’t totally choose alkaline foods…but about 80% of our diet should be alkaline.
I often get good recipes from www.hacres.org which is Hallelujah Acres. They also have great videos instructing you on gardening, juicing, and other essential skills for living in health. Bonnie Ross has a neat cookbook, The Amazing Acid Alkaline Cookbook Balancing Taste, Nutrition, and Your pH Levels. It’s also available at www.amazon.com.
If you do nothing else, get your pH in the healthy range (a few points above 7) and you will start to see healing take place. Of course, you will have to stop the acidic “input” whether it’s food, thoughts, words, emotions, drinks like sodas, etc. Certain pharmaceuticals contribute to acidity so you might check with your doctor on that. Once I got balanced, I no longer needed pharmaceuticals I’d been on for decades….I’m not saying that will happen for others……yet……..

We talk a lot on this blog about the agreement of “natural law” or science and “supernatural law” or Scripture. The area of the emotional roots of disease (including cancer and other potentially lethal conditions) is a perfect example of such agreement.
“Naturally” or scientifically, we know that emotional responses to trauma, fear, unresolved anger, bitterness, etc. form memories that stick with us persistently–literally sending toxic chemicals into our bloodstream. As these chemicals are continually distributed because we “recall and mentally re-live” hurtful events, certain damaging physical responses occur.
Blood vessels begin to leak plasma and certain proteins which become trapped in the fluid between cells at an abnormal rate so that the lymphatic system is unable to clean that fluid efficiently. The result is a cellular environment that becomes increasingly upset electrically and chemically. Oxygen and nutrients are not delivered normally to cells and pain and fatigue ensues. Eventually vicious cycles of toxic reactions occur at the cellular level –an environment rife for tumorous cellular activity.
Scripture teaches us “Supernatural Law” which is “illustrated” by the “natural law” responses just described above. Time after time Jesus healed the sick–in fact, He healed every single person who came to Him for healing. [I know He didn’t heal everyone at the pool of Bethesda, but none of them came to Him. The one he healed was, in fact, unable to come to Him as the story relates. All there were focused on the pool rather than on Jesus.]
As Jesus healed every sick person who came to Him, he nearly always told them their sins were forgiven. Many other times in Scripture, we are instructed to forgive others as our Lord has forgiven us. Such instruction appears in the model “Lord’s Prayer” in Matthew 6 as well as the 5th Chapter of James and many more lessons. Jesus makes it clear in Mark 11:25. (See end of post for other references.)
I know in absolute certainty that my own cancer evolved as a result of a deep seated bitterness and resentment of trauma occurring in my 20’s. It does not matter whether or not the bitterness is a result of one’s own sin or sin against us. Either forms deep wounds in our souls–vivid negative memories or memorials to hurt/trauma/etc. The redemptive blood of Christ covers ALL sin and, once we forgive ourselves and others, focusing on the glory of His resurrection is a power that can heal all soul wounds.
Forgiving others AND ourselves is an absolute pre-requisite for obtaining and keeping bodily healing. It is critical spiritually and it is critical physically because not forgiving is willfully releasing lethal toxins into the physical body. The instruction in Scripture is there because our God is LOVE and He wants us fully in health. As King David wrote in Psalm 139, “We are fearfully and wonderfully made.” Just as a loving human parent would not put disease on a child of his, our loving Father and Creator does not want us sick. We MUST comply with both “Heavenly or Supernatural Law” and “Natural or Scientific Law”….first of all is ” Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love others AND love self. Forgive others and forgive self. NO exceptions.
I was recently privileged to hear Pastor Tony Kemp who has an amazing healing anointing ( www.tonykempministries.net ). As I witnessed him ministering healing to many–miracles abounded. In every case, he made certain the “subject” forgave others and self before he ministered to them. I was convinced his ministry was so powerful because he held so closely to the purest law of love stated in the preceding paragraph of this blog. Love forgives, period!
I’ve written before about the amazing teaching of Katie Souza ( www.expectedendministries.com ). I highly recommend her teaching CDs on “Staying Un-Offendable” available on the website.
If you want to study the science of toxic emotions causing diseases like cancer, I recommend you check out Youtubes such as

Or you can refer to our extensive blog posts from April 2013 for other resources on this subject.
Once you have forgiven ALL others and yourself, “babysit your mind and emotions” so that the sin of offense does not undermine your healing. It’s the LAW on every level and cannot be escaped.
Scriptural references for forgiving (These are just NT but there are many in OT): Matthew 6,9,12,18 Mark 2,3,4,11, Luke 5,6,7,11,12,17,18,23, Luke 5,6,7,11,12,17,1823, John 20, Acts 22, Romans 4, 2 Corinthians 2, Ephesians 4, Colossians 2, James 5, 1 Peter 2, 1 John 2,5.
|Remember: “God neither slumbers nor sleeps.” Time, Space, Circumstances do not control Him.|
Because, in my own experience and many post shared on this blog, we have seen the power of truth in God’s Word. Christ IS God’s Word made flesh and IN US who believe. It is POWER and it is TRUTH.
Pastor Joseph Prince’s devotion today gets right to that truth. www.josephprince.org….I highly recommend his book, Destined to Reign and it comes in a daily devotional format also. It strengthened me in my own healing journey.
I was compelled to share it with my readers because I certainly could not say it better–except to add that I know this truth from my own healing experience. See and speak the healing not the disease!

- TAKE CONTROL:
- Negative Thoughts
- Polluted Environment
- Acid Diet
- Destructive Emotions (i.e. anger)
- DISORGANIZATION OF CELLS
- COMPROMISED ENVIRONMENT
- DEBILITATING ACIDS
“In the Cycle of Imbalance the signs of disease (symptomatolgy) are reflected: low energy and fatique, poor digestion, excess weight, unclear thinking, aches and pains, major disorders.”
Here is a link to a video of Dr. Young discussing how to test your body’s pH level. This is a Youtube video posted by www.renegadehealth.com which is another blog we sometimes re-post from. Here is the video link: http://renegadehealth.com/blog/2009/12/07/dr-robert-young-on-how-to-test-your-bodys-ph-levels
The website for Dr. Young is www.pHMiracleLiving.com. I’m sharing these links so you can check out the information yourself. I realize that people like Dr. Young (who is a research scientist with good credentials as far as I can tell) make a lot of waves when they courageously stand up to orthodox medicine. Medicine is an industry and cancer treatment is a HUGE industry worldwide. In fact, I recently heard one of the most revered classically trained physician in America explain how the “industry nature” of medicine influences the resistance to changing treatment protocols even when “alternative treatments” are proven effective. Check out Dr. Ben Carson’s comments on the youtube: http://youtu.be/Q9lwQyKJhBQ . Keep in mind that Dr. Carson is head of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins and is world renowned. He’s also a cancer survivor who did have surgery but also used glyconutrients (not orthodox treatment) in his healing. I wouldn’t be surprised if Dr. Carson’s comments hadn’t been “removed” from Youtube since they were quite candid…so check it out soon.
Be careful to carefully weigh comments about people like Dr. Young–pro and con. I find his research sound, but I have not looked at every single facet of it. I have not completed his pH Diet book yet. There are naysayers from orthodox medicine who are quite threatened by accurate medical history and any information that disproves “germ theory” upon which western medicine is totally based. Keep in mind that western medicine is largely controlled by pharmaceutical giants.
In view of our most recent post regarding the placebo and nocebo effects, I was amazed to find the free daily devotional I receive from Pastor Joseph Prince dealt with the “mind/body” topic from a profoundly wise perspective–a Biblical perspective. I am compelled to share this devotional message and to highly recommend you subscribe to Pastor Prince’s daily messages
as well as his encouraging daily podcasts. Pastor Prince’s website is www.gracehope.com . Your faith will soar as you receive Pastor Prince’s insights.
